Dear Editor
The long awaited Berbice River Bridge is almost complete. Soon the long delays and inconveniences that were always associated with traveling to and from Berbice will be a thing of the past. I am very optimistic about the bridge and all of the good that it will do.
However, there is one thing which I still feel a little uneasy about and that is the fact that from studying the photos, it seems like there is not much support between the columns which are keeping up the high span.
I am not an engineer, but, I believe there should be more support between columns, (example) arches or cables.
I know it will be quite a challenge to have those on the retractor part but I am sure there are ways of doing it. If these parts are not properly supported there could be the possible danger of sagging under weight or worst!
That is just my opinion I am sure the engineers have already calculated this and do whatever is necessary to eliminate all danger. Good job.
