The police are seeking a killer and a motive in the brutal murder of 26-year-old Creavone Thorne, whose partly decomposed body was discovered yesterday morning in a Thomas Lands trench in the vicinity of National Park with the throat slit.
This newspaper understands that Thorne’s boyfriend has been taken into custody as investigators hunt for clues.
Thorne, of Lot 36 Sussex Street, was found floating in the trench at around 07:00 hours by a cattle rearer whose cows were grazing in a nearby field.
At the time of the discovery, she was half-naked, bloated and her bodice appeared to be covered with blood.
Relatives said that Thorne left home on Monday night, telling her cousins that she was going on a “fine spin.”
“She didn’t say exactly where she was going and who she was going with,” one of her cousins said. When she failed to return, her family tried calling her cellular phone but did not get through. “Her phone was cutting off all the time and after that it was going straight to voicemail.”
According to Thorne’s relatives, they were not aware of any problems she might have had with anybody.
Thorne lives in Antigua and had been in Guyana for about six weeks.
Reports are that her boyfriend was the last person to speak with her before she disappeared. Relatives said that she had called him and told him to meet her on Croal Street.
They became aware of her death after a news bulletin was aired on television. They rushed down to Lyken Funeral Parlour where they positively identified her body. Thorne was identified by tattoos and from clothes she was wearing.
At her home, grief-stricken relatives were unable to control their emotions. Thorne’s mother was hysterical and slipping in and out of consciousness. “They kill meh daughter. I want (to die); I gon kill myself…I gon jump overboard,” she screamed.
Relatives were forced to restrain her. A post mortem examination is expected to be conducted today.
