The Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) Special Events Committee (SEC) in association with the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) have combined efforts to run off a First Aid Clinic today and tomorrow at the Area ‘H’ ground, Rose Hall Corentyne.
The clinic has attracted forty persons drawn from twelve first division teams, Primary and Secondary Schools in the Ancient County. It would be conducted by the Medical Arm of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and would run from 09:00 to 15:00hrs on both days.
This initiative is aimed at equipping persons with the requisite skills to handle emergency situations where a cricketer, student or even officials are injured or if they develop medical problems during a cricket match.
Chairman of the BCBC Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster stated that the clinic is an important event as most clubs and schools do not have anyone who is trained to conduct basic first aid.
The need for such a clinic was fast tracked following the recent death of a basketball player in the City who passed away whilst playing a game at Burnham Court. Acting president of the BCBC Keith Foster is expected to declare the activity open today.
Meanwhile, the Special Events Committee during the month of December would also be launching the first ever Annual Review Magazine of the BCBC while a Berbice all time cricket XI would also be unveiled.
The Committee would also be honouring 20 cricket officials for their hard work in assisting to keep cricket alive in Berbice. The officials would be drawn from the Boards first division teams and sub associations.
