Play in the I Movement, Bartica Football Association Super 8 tournament being staged at the Bartica Community Centre ground, has reached its semi-final stage, which is set for Saturday.
The scheduled double header to determine who will play for the championship trophy and $500,000 winner’s purse, sponsored by Freddy and Raffee Butchery, is set to feature a meeting between Platinum Gulley Side Warriors and Unknown Warriors in what promises to be a keenly contested clash, while the other game will see Mighty Rulers opposing Klassic Super Stars.
In latest results from the tournament, which opened on November 19 in the Mining town, Mighty Rulers overcame I Movement Eagles 3-1 in the opening contest of last Sunday’s double fixture.
Devon Elias in the 20th minute and Andrew Murray with a double strike in the 67th and 90th minutes secured victory and a place in the semis for their team.
Unknown Warriors secured their spot by defeating Indio Mining 1-0 compliments of Colin Semple’s 13th minute goal.
Last Saturday, Unknown Warriors got past Mighty Rulers 4-2. Sean Barrow (5, 19) slotted in a double, while Dexter Bentick (62) and Andre Stoby (86) were on target for the Warriors.
Klassic Super Stars and Pure Diamond Kings played out a stalemate, with Klassic Super Stars advancing on a superior goal average.
In results from the games played prior, Platinum Gulley Side opened with a 4-0 drubbing of Pure Diamond Kings, Anthony Abrams (18, 39, 47) poured in a hat-trick and Cyperian Collison the other in the 12th minute.
Mighty Rulers opened the floodgates on Indio Mining with a 10-0 hiding. For the winners, Andrew Murray had a hat-trick (6, 20, 37), Stellon Keith did better with a helmet-trick (13, 18, 30, 35), Sherwin John (55, 60) and Shawn Joseph scored one to complete the rout.
Platinum Gulley Side overcame Klassic Super Stars 6-2 with Ian Gomes (2), Anthony Abrams (12, 36), Kurt Welcome (23) and Elton Browne (82, 87) being the marksmen for the winners. Unknown Warriors also beat I Movement Eagles in the second game of that double header on November 20.
