Family members still unsure whether relative is dead
Following reports that Balram Roobchand had been shot and killed in Holland, family members yesterday said that there still is no definite confirmation as to whether the man is dead or alive.
They also say they are unsure whether Roobchand last lived in Trinidad and Tobago, Holland or further afield.
Relatives told Kaieteur News yesterday that all of their attempts to make contact with Roobchand have proved futile.
A man, identified only as ‘Anil,’ called Roobchand’s relatives in Guyana and in Barbados and said that Roobchand had been shot and killed in Holland on Friday last.
The caller reportedly also contacted Roobchand’s brother in Barbados, stating that the man’s body had already been cremated.
‘Anil’ claimed that he and Roobchand had travelled ‘backtrack’ from Trinidad and Tobago to Holland where Roobchand had been shot five times in his stomach.
This grim news comes after contact was lost with Roobchand for some three weeks.
Roobchand’s mother, Ramola Persaud Roobchand, said yesterday that a family member who lives in the United States will be travelling to Holland to find out exactly what happened.
Roobchand’s family has expressed optimism and hope that the man will be found alive and well.
