…occupants of vehicle had threatened woman
Police on Friday night detained two men and impounded the car of a police officer after finding an unlicensed, loaded firearm in the rank’s vehicle.
The .32 pistol, with matching rounds, was found in the officer’s car after a cousin of his, and an associate, had gone to an East Ruimveldt premises and threatened a woman at gunpoint.
Kaieteur News understands that the men had alleged that the woman’s brother had sent two men to rob the friend.
According to reports, the friend was playing dominoes at a house in East Ruimveldt on Friday night when two armed men barged in and relieved him of a quantity of gold jewellery.
The victim subsequently informed the policeman’s cousin about the incident, while claiming that he knew who had sent the robbers.
Kaieteur News was told that the men then drove to the suspect’s East Ruimveldt home, where they confronted the man’s sister.
The woman said that she had just finished having a bath when the men, whom she knew, entered her yard.
“I say ‘what happen?’ and one of them say ‘Leh yuh brother bring back the gold’ and he crank the gun and point it in my face.”
She alleged that before the men left the policeman’s cousin informed her that he was returning to kill her brother.
Kaieteur News understands that the woman went to the East La Penitence Police Station to report the incident.
As fate would have it, the two men also drove in the police officer’s car to the same station to report the robbery.
On seeing them the woman immediately identified them to the police. The ranks searched the vehicle and unearthed the unlicensed .32 pistol.
According to a source, the policeman’s cousin informed the ranks that the firearm belonged to his friend.
The men were detained and the weapon and car seized.
Kaieteur News was told that the police officer who owns the car would not be implicated, since he had left the vehicle with his cousin.
