Some organisations that have benefited from the USS Kearsarge ‘Continuing Promise 2008’ have officially had their projects handed over to them.
Yesterday, the Houston Community High School and the Red Cross Children’s Convalescent Home received their rehabilitated projects.
First, the USS Kearsarge team visited the Houston Community High School. Following a brief ceremony, the newly renovated library was handed over to the head teacher of the school, Ms Vanessa Critchlow.
During the ceremony, the USS Kearsarge engineering team was treated to songs and poems by students of the school.
The head teacher lauded the efforts of the USS Kearsarge team. She noted that her entire staff is pleased with the works that were done on the school’s building over the past two weeks.
That school has benefited from a renovated library, renovated washroom, several class rooms were also fitted with shelves, and also the school’s staff room was given a facelift.
Commodore Fernandez ‘Frank’ Ponds, in his bit, told the teachers and students that it is indeed a pleasure being able to bring joy to many. He noted that, up until Thursday, the highlight of his trip was the reception hosted by President Bharrat Jagdeo.
He said all that changed yesterday after he was given the opportunity to interact with the teachers and students of the school. And over at the Red Cross Children’s Convalescent Home, much cheer was brought to the children there.
The USS Kearsarge team, apart from sprucing up the compound of that Home, donated a quantity of teddy bears to the children there.
They also fitted the home with a new emergency exit.
