-aerial search resumes
Search teams were yesterday cutting trails in Merume, Cuyuni/Mazaruni area, which they hope would lead to the spot where a Beech King air plane disappeared almost three weeks ago.
Prometheus Resources Guyana Inc. official Shazadah Khan told Kaieteur News that the search party was moving through difficult terrain towards a possible crash site.
“We think that we are close to an area that looks promising from an (aerial) picture, but the going is rough. There are boulders the size of houses; there is lots of rain, and this makes it difficult to climb over the boulders which are slippery,” he said.
According to the official, the aerial photograph that was taken in Merume showed fallen trees and a rectangular space between them.
Khan also disclosed that another plane, chartered by Dynamic Aviation, arrived in Guyana today to conduct aerial searches in the area.
According to the official, the aircraft has LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) equipment which can be used in an effort to locate the plane.
According to Khan, the team had completed its scouring of the Kurupung area where a Brazilian miner and others had claimed to have heard an explosion after seeing a plane in the air.
Although the locally-organised air and ground search was called off last week, Prometheus Resources Guyana Inc. is still determined to retrieve the aircraft and its passengers.
The Beech King Air N87V, chartered from Dynamic Aviation Group Inc by Terraques Ltd, disappeared on November 1 while conducting geographical surveys in the Mazaruni area.
Missing and presumed dead are pilot James Barker, First Officer Chris Paris, and Canadian technician Patrick Murphy.
