As the National Week of Testing ended today, Scotiabank took on a leadership role in its industry as it continued to show commitment to the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS in the region.
On Tuesday, the bank, in collaboration with the National AIDS Programme Secretariat, set up an all-day private temporary testing tent at its main branch, located at 104 Carmichael Street, Georgetown.
To support the event, branch staff was attired in red Scotiabank-branded HIV/AIDS awareness T-shirts, and flyers were distributed to customers, who were also encouraged to get counselled and tested.
Scotiabank Guyana has been very active in raising awareness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic sweeping the world.
On the last Friday of each month, all of the bank’s branches in Guyana are well decorated with special posters and pamphlets promoting HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness. Staff dress in red Scotiabank-branded HIV/AIDS T-shirts and, with the assistance of other NGO’s, counselling and advice are provided to customers. The bank also holds an annual charitable dinner, theatre and dance, which is hosted by its staff. All the proceeds go to the support of orphans and vulnerable children who are affected by HIV/AIDS.
The next date slated for this grand event is December 11, 2008.
