In the early hours of yesterday morning, burglars broke into and robbed Griffin’s Enterprise, a small graphic design company located at 49 Russell Street, Charlestown. They stole a quantity of equipment.
Proprietor Eugene Griffin explained that, as is customary, he locked up his business at approximately 21:30 hours on Thursday, and went home.
The next day, as he was taking his son to school, he explained, he received a call from one of the businesses neighbouring his establishment.
“They tell me fuh come; they seh they see de door open up,” Griffin explained.
When he arrived, the businessman said, he saw that persons had forced two locks off the door and had entered the premises. Griffith said that the men were able to carry away two computers, a television, a generator, a digital camera and a DVD player.
From all appearances, the criminals had hurriedly extracted what they wanted, as the premises was in a state of disarray, with cables hanging everywhere.
According to Griffin, he summoned the police at approximately 09:30 hours yesterday, but by 14:30 hours, ranks had yet to arrive on the scene of the crime.
“Ah walk and go to Brickdam, and they send me to de Ruimveldt Police Station. Ah mek de report deh, and they seh fuh go back, and tell me nah fuh touch nutten; dey seh dey coming jus now,” a frustrated Griffin related.
Griffin suspects that the robbery took place at around 02:00 hours yesterday, as one of the neighbours to his business told him that there had been a great commotion up the street, as if some men were fighting.
Griffin suspects that the fighting was staged, to serve as a distraction so that the criminals could make off with their loot.
