Some $2.5M in prize money will be won tomorrow when the Anjue and Hamlet Park Turf Club stage their one-day eight-race horserace programme at their track at Mahaicony on the East Coast, Demerara.
Several of the country’s leading racehorses are expected to be on show with one of the centre pieces on the programme being the C & Lower event for a $300,000 purse over a distance of 1200m.
The race has been sponsored by Banks DIH and will see several leading horses already taking entry and among them is the American bred trio in Annie’s Playmate, Irish Gel, and Mr. Wheelie Wheel and they will be matching strides against the champion horse in Guyana at the moment Sequins in a race that promises to be explosive.
The race for Two year old maidens features Tidal Wave, Star Streak and the Lion going head to head for the $150,000 first prize.
The F and lower 1200m gallop also carries $150,000 purse and this event also promises to be a scorcher. The G and lower 1200m sprint, which is another feature race, will see the winner taking away $140,000.
Other races are for horses classified H and lower with a winning prize of $90,000 for the 1600m contest. The J and K 1200m run has $85,000 available for the winner, while there are races for the L class grade 1 and the L class grade 2 horses.
Among some of the top horses expected to be on show are Sacrifice, Jumbo Joy, Kavinci, Finishing Touch, Channel Boy, Gap, Pinch De Cash and Love U Dee, Rude Boy, Brave Heart and Prince Warrior. Over 55 horses have entered. Action is set to commence at 12:30 hrs.
