The Parrot, in its last squawk, made reference to people who, even though they possess the sense of sight, cannot see. The same thing applies to people who can hear, but don’t listen; who can touch, but cannot feel; who can smell, but cannot identify the aroma; who can taste, but cannot differentiate between sour and sweet.
In these cases, one is tempted to assume that people with the tendencies just described are merely exhibiting symptoms of depression as a result of various reasons. However, there are those who have little or no reason to be depressed, but exhibit similar symptoms.
These are in a different category: the egoist, the opportunist, the impatient; and, I dare say, as in Guyana’s case, some member of the “happosition”. They make statements while being totally unaware of the related issues.
Sometimes, I strongly believe that it is not a case of them being unaware, but simply a deliberate attempt to block out pertinent information, to ignore facts, and to sidestep issues.
It was a clear case of “blindness” on behalf of the folks at Palm Tree jungle when they stated that more needs to be done by the administration to help deal with the current financial crisis that has gripped the developed world.
This was dealt with last Wednesday. The same day a letter from the Nestle girl, Larlene that is, appeared in the print media. The letter is an extension of her party’s, the Palm Tree jungle, that is, carping on the administration’s position on torture.
I am forced to ask again, “Ow, Larlene, tell me nah, tell me what should the police people do when they have a suspect in custody?” I squawked about this before, so I ain’t want to bore the readers; but with the kind of heinous crimes that have been committed on innocent people, isn’t it clear that certain mechanisms should be in place for the garnering of information by law enforcement from suspects?
Ow, Larlene, yuh young, don’t let the spin-skill of some of your seasoned colleagues “blind” yuh. Those same colleagues should be made to answer for the atrocities unleashed on Guyanese when your party was forcefully in office.
In those days, not only those who vehemently opposed them were incarcerated and beaten, but ordinary citizens who simply requested the fundamentals from a Government — basic food items, freedom of expression and to associate, free and fair elections, and improved social services, amongst others.
Yes, Larlene, people were jailed and beaten for asking for these things; the things you now enjoy; the things that led to a simple letter like yours being published; things you probably have taken for granted.
Today, with the slaughter of our fellow men and women; with synchrony in the cries for justice by those who were made to suffer; with the fear that these heartless bandits instil in the mindset of sections of our populace; with the trauma that surviving victims have to endure for the rest of their lives, your party, Larlene, seems totally opposed to any action necessary to solve crimes and to bring perpetrators to justice.
That’s not the end of it; your party, Larlene, is the first to pontificate that the administration is not doing anything to curb crime.
Is what really they want, Larlene? Ask them, nah. When yuh young, you have to seek advice. Let them so advise yuh, nah. And talking ‘bout advice, why not ask the survivors of the Lusignan and Bartica massacre what they think about your party’s related position. I am sure they will tell you where to put that position. Eh? You don’t know? Learn to sense with your senses nah! Squawk! Squawk!
