Local football has recently received a substantial boost following the recent appointment of Nykasie Liverpoole as a referee at the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup currently being played in Chile. She is the third Guyanese to be decorated with such honours following in the footsteps of Dianne Ferreira James and Cynette Jeffery.
After notching up valuable experience from officiating in dozens of local matches, Ms Liverpoole achieved the ultimate goal after successfully completing a rigid fitness test prior to the Women’s World Cup. The Guyana Football Federation, while congratulating Liverpoole, noted that, “Once again through Ms Liverpoole, Guyana’s holistic approach to the development of football earns recognition; for it has been the enhanced training opportunities combined with additional exposure to officiating in games both locally and within the region that has made her selection possible. It is our fervent wish that other young women take up the mantle and emulate Liverpoole and the two other esteemed ladies,” the release from the Federation continued.
Liverpoole earned her appointment after honing her skills at local tournaments and those organized by the Caribbean Football Union (CFU).
