Alonzo Greaves will be aiming to successfully defend his Diamond Mineral Water 50-mile cycle road race title when he faces his fellow countrymen on Sunday at the 9th annual meet on the West Demerara.
The course is familiar to all the competitors but only the fittest will survive and be crowned champ come Sunday and Greaves is hoping to be that rider.
His ambitions can be a reality but he must contend with fierce opposition from the likes of new five stage king Junior Niles, Robin Persaud, Tyrone Hamilton, Lear Nunes, Darren Allen, Tony Simon, Christopher Holder and Geron Williams among others.
Eight prime prizes will be up for the taking with the first six riders to cross the line being rewarded.
The first three juniors, veterans and upright riders will also receive prizes.
Race time is 09:00hrs pedaling off from the Wales Police Station of the West Bank proceeding to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish.
Representatives of the sponsors, Demerara Distillers Limited are expected to be on hand to present prizes. (Franklin Wilson)
