PS Steve Ninvalle (right) presents the championship trophy to captain of the winning Soesdyke team, Shawn Arthur, while teammates and supporters enjoy the moment.
Soesdyke captured the Inter-Block football tournament staged in their area and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports last weekend at Soesdyke.
The competition, which featured three teams, saw the sides playing a round robin format and Soesdyke emerged the outstanding team of the lot.
They opened with a 2-0 victory over Kuru Kururu, compliments of goals by Orin Tascher in the 23rd minute and captain Shawn Arthur in the 30th.
Kuru Kururu rebounded to beat Docks Area 3-0 in the second game. Dexroy Adams fired home a double in the 16th and 18th minutes, while Joseph Walker sealed the game in the 20th minute for the winners.
Soesdyke returned to inflict a similar 3-0 whipping on Docks Area in the last game. Dominique Welsh (14, 17) netted a double, while Arthur had opened the scoring in the 8th minute.
Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Sport Steve Ninvalle was on hand for the action and made the presentation of prizes to the outstanding performers.
Meanwhile, the scheduled programme fixed for the Mabaruma area commences today. Football Coach within the ministry, Dennis ‘Chow’ Hunte traveled to the interior location Monday and is conducting training sessions for young players in the area, which is part of the ministry’s developing the grass roots programme.
The ministry has held Inter-Block and coaching programmes in Regions 8, 9, 4, 1, and 10 and is due to travel to Regions 5 and 6.
