Carols Reid stroked seven fours and three sixes in an entertaining 61 while National under-17 player Ricardo Devers grabbed 4-23 to spearhead GYO to a five-wicket victory against TSC at the GYO ground on Sunday in a game reduced to 22 overs per side due to a late starts caused by morning rain.
The 16-year-old Devers, son of former Guyana under-19 off-spinner and International Cricket Commentator Sean Devers, troubled the batsmen in his five-over spell with his big turning off-breaks as TSC were restricted to 167-8 when their 22 overs expired in sunny conditions. Reid and Samuel Ward (31*) saw the hosts to 172-5 in 19 overs.
Shawn DeSouza hammered five fours and five sixes in his top score of 56 before he was removed by Devers who warmed up for this year’s regional under-17 limited overs tournament in Trinidad from December 11-17.
Demerara under-19 all-rounder Ronale Bourne supported with four fours and a six in 36 for TSC on a placid track and small ground.
When GYO began their reply, a small crowd saw Reid get good support from Ward who ended the contest with his third six after Skipper Derek Koulen had struck five fours and three sixes in a cameo 29.
Mark Nicholson took 2-21 from four overs in a losing effort for TSC.
