Army loses another weapon

– Coast Guard ranks being questioned

The Guyana Defence Force has launched an investigation into the disappearance of another weapon from within the organization.
This time a M35 Browning pistol and 37 rounds of 9mm ammunition were discovered missing from the small arms magazine aboard the GDFS Essequibo, which was moored alongside the wharf at Coast Guard headquarters.
A release from Camp Ayanganna stated that several Officers and Ratings of the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard are assisting with the investigations.
The Guyana Police Force is also assisting with this investigation.
The army did not say when the weapon was lost.
This recent disappearance comes at a time when the army has not yet recovered all of its AK-47s which went missing in 2006.
Although some of these weapons were recovered from bandits during shootouts with the Joint Services and despite several court martials, the GDF has not yet been able to establish how the weapons were removed from Camp Ayanganna or who was responsible for their disappearance.
