Dear Editor,
This year, around May/June, the public servants were awarded a 5% increase on their salaries and $4,000.00 per month to be added to their salaries as a temporary cost-of-living allowance for persons earning under $50,000., until December this year.
The pensioners waited with bated breath to be told that they, too, would be awarded that $4.000.00 temporary cost-of-living allowance, as the majority of pensioners receive under $50,000. monthly. But alas, this was not to be, and the poor pensioners are left to continue struggling with the rising food prices.
What a callous disregard for the welfare of our senior citizens, and how unfair. Our President and Dr. Luncheon always talk about fair and unbiased treatment to the Guyanese citizens as a whole; but, in this case, we, the pensioners, have been glaringly ignored.
What else could happen now? Could someone else help me to “champion the cause” of the senior citizens in distress?
James Elliot Holder
Pensioners have been callously ignored by the Govt.
