DEAR EDITOR,
I address a burning issue pertaining to the uplifting of pension books. It was stated in the Kaieteur News (13th September, 2008) that pension books would not be issued to anyone except the person concerned.
There are some cases where many elderly folks cannot walk properly or do so with considerable pain or assistance. Some are blind and others cannot even see properly.
At the Uitvlugt Community Centre, there is a system where each person will shift to the other chair as the person before them is being attended to.
Almost all these locations have very large turnout and it takes hours to be attended to.
It is painful to see these old people, many who are dealing with arthritis and other aches and pains, having to endure these conditions.
In most cases they have to be accompanied by some family member to render assistance.
Why is it that our old folks cannot have a close family member uplift their pension books by means of authorisation?
Could the relevant authorities kindly put a system in place as early as possible to assist in uplifting pension books when necessary?
