DEAR MR. EDITOR,
Surprised I am not, confused I am; at his press conference on the 13th of November, Mr. Colin Klass stated that “I came into football voluntarily and when I decide to leave I will do so voluntarily”.
Should Mr. Klass never feel the desire to do so, is he saying that no one or nothing can remove him from office? This coming from a gentleman who has on many occasions said that the General Council, which is made up of affiliated associations is the highest decision making body for football and not the GFF or Mr. Klass himself.
I guess those affiliates should now be asking themselves if they are only there to follow Mr. Klass every instructions, as the powers they thought they had was never there to begin with. If persons out there still doubt that football in Guyana belongs to Colin Klass and not the players, Mr. Klass has finally put those doubts to rest.
What was made clear is that there exist no room for dissent in Colin Klass’s GFF; for those who decides otherwise their concerns are treated as trivial or they will be labeled as players “ in the twilight of their career” as such no consideration is given to their concerns.
There is some correctness to Mr. Klass statement that he does not play the football, the players do as such their poor performance is no fault of his (continues do delegate responsibility), however there is the saying “if you fail to prepare then you must be prepared to fail”.
The responsibility of the team’s preparation is that of the GFF. In an interview several weeks ago with Stabroek News, the technical director Mr. Jamaal Shabazz, mentioned that many of the proposals that he submitted to the GFF, so as to have the team properly prepared for the world Cup qualifiers and the Digicel Cup were not adhered to; a period of encampment in Brazil was also included in those proposal, along with more international friendly’s, among other things.
So Mr. Klass the team failure is your failure. Talk about giving someone a basket to fetch water. How much of the nearly $24,000,000 actually went into the team’s preparation, as the GFF MUST attend FIFA sanctioned tournaments.
If indeed the players that did rough-up Mr. Klass, then I must say that this is unacceptable, and will not advance your cause, as it would give him the legal ammunition he needs to bring down your football careers for life, further intimidating others who would challenge him.
The Jaguars must therefore use their influence to build support for their cause. You would have already found a partner in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA), which made their pronouncement a few months ago, about the sad state of football in Guyana.
Only the players can say through their representatives at the General Council if they are satisfied with the direction our football is heading, if they are; then I guess our dreams of one day seeing the flag of Guyana fluttering at the FIFA World Cup will remain just that, a dream.
