LOC, Stakeholders rise above challenge
Despite the financial challenge that almost forced the cancellation of this year’s National Schools Track and Field, Cycling and Swimming Championships, one distinct feature stand out and that is the outstanding work done by the Local Organising Committee set up in the host town of Linden.
The LOC, a team of hard working experienced individuals headed by Marcel Hutson, who all have a vast amount of knowledge in the field of sports, has done a great job in preparing for the four-day event which will be host to hundred of athletes from across the length and breath of this beautiful country.
According to Executive member of the LOC Mayfield Taylor-Trim, who spoke with Kaieteur Sport yesterday, apart from the work done by the Body, a number of other stakeholders must also be commended for their support to the event among them being Mackenzie Sports Club, the Regional Democratic Council, Guyana Water Inc, Linden Town Council, Guyana Police Force, LEAP, Variety Woods Lumber Yard, Guyana Fire Service, BOSAI, Linden Secretariat, the Regional Health Officer and team, Mackenzie Hospital and residents of the community.
She added that all those companies and individuals joined forces to ensure that the championships are an overwhelming success.
Asked whether they have catered for any unforeseen circumstances, Mayfield-Trim responded by saying that there is no perfect situation, but as far as possible they’ve prepared for any negative situations.
“We’ve learned from some of the poorly organised events of the past and try to remedy those faults,” she said.
The championships will run from November 17-21, at the MSC ground.
