Jamaica versus USA match abandoned
Grounds staff work feverishly in an attempt to get some amount of play at the Everest Cricket Club ground yesterday. It was all in vain.
Defending champions Jamaica Team Manager Milton Henry speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday said that the abandoned game against the United States of America (USA) is an extremely disappointing result for them.
Heavy early morning rain left the outfield waterlogged in addition to seepage under the covers left umpires Vincent Bullen and Colin Alfred with no other alternative, but to declare the match abandoned at 14:15 hrs. According to Henry, the latest result makes it much harder for them now that they have to share the points with the USA after losing their opening game to Barbados.
“We are very frustrated with the playing conditions, but what it really means is that we have to win our next two games in order for us to stand a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals,” Henry pointed out.
“We have two more matches against Canada and Guyana and we simply have to re-focus and win those two engagements.”
Henry informed that even though the team is a bit disappointed with the fact that no play was possible, the general mood is very positive and the guys are eager to get on the field and play.
Jamaica’s next meeting is against Canada tomorrow at the GCC ground.
