By Sean Devers
Barbados, who beat defending champions Jamaica and took a bonus point from the USA in their rain affected second round match, lead the points table with nine points from two matches with a net run rate of +1.43 as the President’s Cup regional one-day cricket series in Guyana head into its first rest day today.
Trinidad and Tobago who had to settle for one point from their washed out second round game after taking a bonus point from their first match against the Leewards, are in the second position on six points with a net run rate of +1.71
The Leeward Islands, who beat Canada to take two bonus points in their opening game but lost to Trinidad and Tobago in their next match, are placed third with six points from two matches with a net run rate of +1.41.
CCC who beat the Windward Islands with a bonus point after losing to Guyana in their first game, are fourth with five points with a net run rate of +0.58 while the Windward Islands and Guyana are locked on four points each from two games after the Islanders beat Guyana in Berbice in the only game played in the rain hit round on Saturday.
Defending champions Jamaica who endured a washed out game against the USA in which they had to settle for just one point, have just a single point from two games at a net run rate of -0.42 due to their first round loss to Barbados, while North American sides Canada and the USA are also on one point each from two matches but with a worse net run rate than the Jamaicans heading into their penultimate preliminary round games.
The competition continues tomorrow with Canada facing defending champions Jamaica at Bourda, Trinidad and Tobago facing the USA at Enmore and Barbados battling the Leeward Islands at Uitvlugt.
Points table:
Barbados (9), T&T (6), L/Wards (6), CCC (5), W/Wards (4), Guyana (4), Jamaica (1) Canada (1), USA (1)
