Wakenaam and Leguan play to a draw
Wakenaam and Leguan played to a draw as the Guyana Cricket Board first division two day cricket competition continued at Green’s Park, Leguan in Essequibo last weekend.
Leguan won the toss and elected to bat first on a difficult pitch and were bowled out for 93 in 38 overs. Zaheer Razack was the only batsman to show any sort of resistance with 24 as Imran Khan 5 – 39, Roopnarine Persaud 3 – 12, bowled well for Wakenaam who also made 93 in 45.1 overs in their first innings.
Roopnarine Persaud top scored with 29 while Wazeer Mohamed supported with 20. Mustapha Zaman captured 4 – 35 while R. Chowtie took 4 – 20 and Shazaad Razack 2 – 20 for the host.
Leguan in their second turn at the crease made 145 all out in 52.3 overs with Mustapha Zaman scoring 55 and Shazaad Razack 36. Imran Khan bagged 6 – 49 to finish with match figures of 11 – 88 while Nazeer Mohamed took 4 – 27.
With 146 required for victory, Wakenaam closed their second innings on the second and final day on 52 – 4 off 20 overs. Wazeer Mohamed and Randolph Harry were unbeaten on 8 and 2 respectively.
Wayne Osborne and Roopnarine made 16 each as Shazaad Razack and R. Chowtie took two wickets each for Leguan as the game ended in a draw.
