Patrick Bailey, 29, of 121 Republic Drive, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday placed on $15,000 bail on a charge of possession of two grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Appearing before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, Bailey was represented by attorney-at-law James Bond, who in a bail application told the court that the entire case stemmed from Bailey’s friends having a misunderstanding with the police on November 10 last.
Bond further told the court that his client is a fireman who served the Guyana Fire Service for the last ten years.
He further told the court that Bailey had objected to the harassment which his friends had to endure by the hands of the police.
The lawyer added that the police “fired three shots at his (Bailey’s) friends, and they also kicked one of the men.”
There was no objection by the prosecution, and the accused was ordered to return to court on March 25.
