Stepfather rapes mother, daughter

After staying silent for the past 24 years, a 33-year-old woman has finally decided to come forward and tell her story of how she was repeatedly raped and molested by her stepfather.
The woman who does not want to be identified for fear of discrimination, and who would only call herself ‘Kelly’, told Kaieteur News that when she was nine years old, her stepfather started to have sex with her, without her permission.
Kelly said that she has now decided to come forward with her story, as she recently learnt that the man has done the same thing to her 15-year-old daughter and a cousin of hers.
The woman blames her mother for what has happened to her and her daughter, as she noted that when the incident happened to her and she related it to her mother, the woman refused to believe her.
Kelly explained that the raping went on for approximately five years, after which she got fed up of it and took the decision to run away from home at age 14.
She noted that before the man would rape her at their Albouystown home, he would put on a porn movie and force her to look at it.
According to Kelly, since she was very young, she did not know what the movie was about, but all she could remember is that he would do to her whatever he saw in the movie.
Kelly said that her stepfather would threaten to kill her if she ever talked about what he did to her. She added that at one time, he told her that the reason why he was doing what he did is because she had a white substance in her back that had to be removed and it was the only way it can be done.
The woman said that at first she believed him, but as she grew older, she discovered that what he was doing is wrong and decided to tell her mother. However, this proved futile, since her mother did not believe her.
Kelly noted at that time, her mother was involved in trading goods from Berbice to Georgetown and was hardly at home; giving her stepfather enough time to do what he had to do.
“But this thing really haunting me…It’s not easy when you pass through these things. The hurt and the pain are still there. I told my mother about what was happening, but she never did anything about it,” Kelly told this newspaper.
And after all these years the tears flowed again, streaming down her face.
Meanwhile, as it relates to the case of her 15-year-old daughter, who now resides in Canada furthering her studies, Kelly said that she got married for the first time at the age of 15, and gave birth to her daughter three years later. Due to the constant abuse that she received at the hands of her husband, she decided to part ways with him.
Kelly said that she then remarried and fearing that her new husband would do to her daughter what her stepfather did to her, she decided to send her daughter to live with her mother and stepfather, as she had thought that the man had gotten old and would have stopped with his bad behaviour.
However, this was not the case. Kelly’s worst fears were confirmed a few weeks ago when her daughter decided to break the sad news to her that she was raped by the same man.
Kelly said that when she got that news, she immediately went into depression mode.
Due to his, the woman had to be treated for depression at the Balwant Singh Hospital and even provided a medical certificate to this effect.
The woman noted that she never expected this to happen to her daughter and now the situation has got worse, as one of her cousins who now reside in Holland has also come forward with the tale that the same man also raped her when she was only seven years old.
“I think that for this what I am doing, I am going to lose my mother, but I think that I lost her long ago because she never picked up for me.”
Kelly said that the man, who now resides at Yarrow Dam, Ruimveldt, has denied the allegations, as he noted that the women are all framing him.
When this newspaper asked Kelly if she would go to the police with the issue, the woman said, “Is that really necessary, because we do not have the evidence.
To me, my mom could have done something about this long ago, but she did nothing. She loves this man so much, that until now she refuses to believe that he did it,” Kelly responded.
She noted that she is revealing her story as she does not want other children to get hurt by the same individual.
Kelly said that although she has married and moved on, the memory is still there and she cannot get over what her stepfather did to her as a child. The scar and memory will remain with her forever, she said.
