Over 2000 persons seen in two days

As the USS Kearsarge continues its humanitarian mission, the team has managed to provide services to some 2,450 persons.
The patients were seen by medical personnel at the centres at Mabaruma and Santa Rosa on Monday and Tuesday.
This number includes patients who actually saw a doctor and those who received pharmaceutical needs.
In the meantime, health care providers are still screening patients and the number of those in need of surgery has not yet been confirmed.
The Kearsarge visit to Guyana, modelled in part on last year’s mission of the USNS Comfort, is the final stop on its four-month, six-nation mission to Latin America and the Caribbean, called “Continuing Promise ’08″.
During the course of its nearly two-week stay in Guyanese waters, personnel from the Kearsarge will provide free medical and dental care to adults and children in Region One, including sites in Mabaruma, Port Kaituma, and Santa Rosa.
Already, a number of patients have been identified by Project Hope for neurology surgery through the Georgetown Public Hospital.
During this mission, the team is targeting some 300 patients per day.
To effectively carry out this mission, the USS Kearsarge has onboard some 150 medical personnel. The ship has the capacity to house some 600 patients at a time.
