Albert Karade was yesterday denied his pretrial liberty when he made his first court appearance before Magistrate Nashaya Williams-Hatmin. It is alleged that the accused broke and entered the dwelling house of Ishwar Persaud, and stole one DVD player valued at $40,000. He pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecution, bail should be denied because Persaud lives in the same house and there could be possible interference. Bail was denied and the accused is expected to make his next court appearance on November 25.
Also appearing before the said magistrate was Sean Brister, 24, of West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme. It is alleged that the accused on November 7 robbed Gerald Jones of $700. A second charge read that he used personal violence against Jones. He too pleaded not guilty.
According to his attorney, Brister was walking along Sheriff Street in the vicinity of Qik Serve when he saw Jones riding a bicycle. The lawyer further told the court that the elderly man fell off his bike and Brister saw and rendered assistance.
He added that when his client tried to do that, the man started to yell “thief”. He said that Brister was arrested and taken into custody.
The accused was asked to post $ 50,000 bail and ordered to make his next court appearance on December 19.
And Errol James 32, of West La Penitence is accused of stealing three packs of cement valued at $6,000 on October 18 from Deon James. He pleaded not guilty.
The defendant told the court that his “cousin is lying” and that the whole argument erupted after there was some confusion about “weed”.
He further told the court that Deon James and her family beat him severely.
He was granted $30,000 bail, but he told the magistrate that he could not raise that money. He is expected to make his next court appearance on December 3.
