Pregnant girlfriend in police custody
The pregnant reputed wife of slain clothes vendor, Raphael Piggott, up to press time yesterday was in police custody as investigators probe the discovery of 17 lbs of cocaine in a special compartment of the vehicle her reputed husband was driving when he was killed.
Yesterday the 22-year-old woman, Evanese King, who is five months pregnant, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for a medical check-up. She was escorted by a female police rank.
Reports are that the woman was taken into police custody after police unearthed eight kilograms of cocaine in the fuel tank of the car in which Piggott was killed.
Police have also detained Vincent Da Costa who was also in the car when Piggott was killed.
This newspaper understands that both persons have denied any knowledge of the drug or cash that was found in the vehicle.
The police also found US$14,041 and 1,100 Euros.
The woman, in an earlier interview with this newspaper, had said she was told to do an ultrasound to ensure that her unborn baby was intact.
However, yesterday at the hospital King said that she was being escorted to the hospital yesterday to facilitate the ultrasound.
On Saturday last, King, her reputed husband and Vincent De Costa were in a car heading to the city when a gunman open fired on Piggott.
At the time Piggott was dropping off De Costa at his Sixth Street, Cummings Lodge home.
The trio was returning from neighbouring Suriname following a two-day visit to the Dutch speaking country.
