Belle Plaine stars defeat Knight Riders in final
Belle Plaine Stars defeated Knight Riders by 7 wickets in the final of the Wakenaam leg of the GTM 15 overs softball cricket competition last Sunday at Good Success.
Knight Riders took first strike and were all out for 77 in 14.5 overs. Satnarine Sahadeo top scored with 30 while Melvorn Daniels contributed 17 as Chandreka Ragnauth with 2 – 19, Mankad Dinban , Gurnauth Khemraj 1 – 17 and Abdool Salim 1 – 7 bowled well for Belle Plaine Stars who replied with 80 – 3 in 8 overs.
Olwin Paton scored 28 while Tulsie Sahadeo made 16 and Ragnauth 13. Besham Bhagpattie and Samnauth Prashad took one wicket each for Knight Riders.
Satnarine Sahadeo, who was named Man-of-the-match collected $6,000 and a trophy, while Belle Plaine starts took the first prize of 1 – ram sheep. The Belle Plaine team will now contest the play offs on November 22 at Anna Regina on the Essequibo Coast.
Harold Alves the GTM Region #2 sports coordinator congratulated the winning team and thanked the others for participating in the competition. He also said that this is the first GTM day of sports on Wakenaam.
