Bharat’s all-round performance highlights second round action last Sunday
Rangers Sports Club registered an upset three-wicket win against favorites Zeeburg in the second round of the Barakat Brothers 20/20 cricket in West Demerara which was played last Sunday.
Zeeburg who beat Parika Warriors by three-wickets in their opening game despite 44 from Youghister Bocehon and 3-22 from Jason Heyliger, lost to Rangers in their second round match as Demerara under-19 player Balbinder Shivpersaud smashed five fours and five sixes in 55 and Amrit Jairam supported with 19 as Zeeburg were all out for 138 in their game at Meten-Meer-Zorg West.
Vijay Doodnarine took 5-25 and Azad Azeez 2-17 for Ranger who reached 139-7 with two overs to spare.
The left-handed Azeez returned to clobber eight sixes and two fours in 61 while Safaraz Karim supported with 20 as Mandolall Doodnarine captured 2-29.
In another match, Anand Bharat captured 4-11 and then came back to hit six fours and two sixes in 54 to lead Crane to a seven-wicket win against Shamrock.
Shamrock fell for 117 all out in 17.1 overs with Deoraj Singh (21) and Parsuram Jairam (14) being the main scorers.
Rawel Hoyte (2-16) and Harrinarine Jadunauth (2-15) supported Bharat for Crane who made 119-3 in 13.5 overs with Pandy Ramroop stroking eight fours in 48 to assist Bharat in their team’s victory march.
In their second game of the day, Rangers whipped Vergenoegen by 60 runs after making 159 in 18.5 overs with Dubraj Singh leading the way with seven fours and three sixes in 54. Sanath Latchman (22) and Jagmohan Singh (21) also batted well.
Shurland Wilson grabbed 4-6 and Mark Miller 2-22 for Vergenoegen who fell for 99 in 17. 5 overs despite 27 from Miller and 22 from Devon Stuart. Chrisindial Persaud (3-29) and Dubraj Singh (2-20) bowled well for the winners.
Vergenoegen gained a walk over from Windsor Forest in their morning game to stay in early contention for the title. The competition continues on Sunday.
