New tournament commences November 18
The long awaited conclusion of the Mayor Green 73rd birthday inter-Ward/Village/Street 7-a-side football tournament is fixed for Friday at the Banks DIH Thirst Park ground starting at 6:00pm.
The four quarter-final games will see Tiger Bay opposing Sophia, Mocha tangle with Laing Avenue, North East LaPenitence facing Goed Fortuin and Timehri challenge Plaisance. The winners will then collide in the semi-finals and final to follow. The games will be of 15 minutes duration of seven and a half minute halves.
The winner is set to take away the Banks DIH $100,000 prize with the runner-up collecting Beepat’s $50,000 purse. The winner will also receive 10 pairs of football boots compliments of AH Sports.
Meanwhile, the Mayor’s 74th birthday 7-a-side tournament will commence on November 18 with eight scheduled matches.
The playing dates for this event are November 18, 20, 25, 27, December 4, 5, 10, 12 and 20. The organisers have invited 32 teams to compete in this invitational tournament with the teams broken into eight groups.
The Groups are ‘A’ – North East LaPenitence, Agricola, Wales and Crane; ‘B’- Tiger Bay, Grove, Stewartville and Golden Grove; ‘C’- West Ruimveldt, Timehri, University and Mahaica; ‘D’- Plaisance, Mocha, America Street and Melanie; ‘E’- Buxton, Goed Fortuin, Kingston and Bent Street; ‘F’- Sophia, Uitvlugt, Campbellville and Charlestown; ‘G’- BV, Den Amstel, Sun Flower Street and Laing Avenue; ‘H’- Victoria, Phoenix Park, North Ruimveldt and Alexander Village.
