Guyana, T&T play to 1-1 stalemate
T&T came back to draw with Guyana 1-1 in a much improved display by the ‘Golden Jaguars’ who dominated the Soca Warriors for most of the game.
Guyana goalkeeper Richard Reynolds (foreground) battles to keep the ball out of goal during a Trinidad attack.
After a goalless first half, the Jaguars picked up from where they left off in the first, creating good build-ups and being more creative at midfield.
And although they knew that they were out of the finals, the Jaguars played with great heart against the Warriors who had dismissed both Antigua and Barbuda and St. Kitts & Nevis in their previous matches.
Forward Randolph, who started, drew the penalty that would give Guyana the lead in the 58th minute.
Jerome went on a solo run and squared the ball which was handled by a T&T defender and referee Willy Minyetty promptly signalled to the spot. Strike partner Gregory Richardson finished the job.
But the home team never gave up and found the equaliser five minutes before full time, substitute Devon Jorsling slapping the ball past Richard Reynolds in goal.
T&T topped the group with 7 points, Antigua finished second with six, Guyana 2 and St. Kitts who lost a thriller to Antigua 4-3 in the first game, ending on 1.
T&T and Antigua advance to the finals in Jamaica.
