Whoever said that age is a barrier to learning was proven wrong yesterday, when 350 persons graduated from the Mark Benschop Foundation with a certificate in the Introduction to Computers course.
This was the seventh such graduation that the Foundation has held within recent months.
Speaking with Kaieteur News yesterday was one of the co-founders of the organisation, Peter Ramsaroop, who noted that he would be a part of developing the untapped resources that young Guyanese possess. He noted that the Foundation would help break barriers that exist within our society.
Ramsaroop explained that all felt a change around the world with the election of President-elect Barack Obama, and he hopes that people can incorporate that feeling in Guyana. He posited that, “Our children are our future, but if we don’t take care of them today, then how would they be our future?”
The computer technician Kayode Lambert, said that they have trained some 800 persons since the inception of the course.
Lambert explained that the course enables people to learn the computer from scratch to professional.
He further noted that his intentions are for persons to move from “strength to strength” and discover their capabilities.
Also at yesterday’s graduation ceremony were two overseas-based Guyanese from Canada, these were “Sister H and Sister J,” who are heavily associated with prison and community works.
Both visitors noted that it’s amazing for someone to provide a course of this nature to people who cannot afford it. “It is being a dream for the overseas contingent that supports Mark Benschop.”
They expressed the hope that others would get involved, and this would make the society a better place.
Ron Morrison, one of the co-founders, noted that this was a dream but now it’s a reality.
