The Berbice leg of the Ministry of Education / National Sports Commission / Guyana Cricket Board / Guyana Teachers Association Secondary Schools 40-overs under-15 Cricket Competition began with the inter-school level in the New Amsterdam / Canjie District.
Off-spinner Mark John took 6 for 24 as School of the Nations New Amsterdam (SON-NA) bowled out Berbice High School (BHS) for 136 in 24 overs.
However his excellent effort was overshadowed by the lack luster performance from his batsmen as his team fell for 89. Pacers Judason Bess, 4 for 17 and Cledwin Cort, 3 for 15 combined to gave Berbice High School a comprehensive 47-run victory.
Also amongst the wickets was pacer Nial Smith from Canje Secondary School, whose 6 for 26, helped dismiss Vryman’s Erven Secondary (VES) for 81 in a nail biting affair.
Canje Secondary (CSS) were all out for 77 to lose by four runs. The spin and pace combination of Andel De Jonge (4 for 15) and Orlando Tanner (4 for 25) did the damage for Vryman’s Erven Secondary.
Scores from the matches:
At Berbice High School Ground: BHS 136 in 24 overs. J. Bess 24. M. John 6-24. K. Simpson 2-32. SoN-NA 89 in 30 overs. J. Bess 4-17, C. Cort 3-15.
At Cumberland: VES 81 in 29 overs. J. Moore 21. N. Smith 6-26. CSS 77 in 22 overs. T. Sooknanan 24. A. De Jonge 4-15, Tanner 4-25.
