Another reported poor performance by Guyana’s ‘Golden Jaguars’ resulted in Antigua Barbuda winning their Digicel Caribbean Cup second round encounter in Trinidad and Tobago yesterday against them 2-1.
It was again a dominating performance by the Jaguars when it related to ball possession, but they failed to create scoring opportunities and those created were not capitalised on.
Kaieteur Sport Franklin Wilson informed that Antigua scored first through Mikele Leigertwood in the 11th minute.
Guyana replied through Randolph Jerome, who came on as a substitute in the 45th minute off a header following a pass from Carey Harris.
Antigua got the winner in 80th from Ranja Christian. Again Guyana were poor in creating chances. They also had a questionable penalty denied by referee when Richardson was brought down from behind.
The Jaguars lacked focus and played too casual, while Antigua looked more hungry and purposeful when ever they were on the ball.
Shawn Bishop came in for Dwight Peters in the starting 11 to bolster the mid filed which was again not penetrating as they could have been. Trinidad defeated St Kitts 3-1 in the second match to stay unbeaten. More details in tomorrow’s edition.
