East Bank E’bo gain first innings points from Wakenaam in drawn game
– Hercules hits century
East Bank Essequibo gained 1st innings points over host Wakenaam after the game ended in a draw as the Guyana Cricket Board First Division 2 – day cricket competition commenced in Essequibo last weekend.
East Bank Essequibo asked to bat first on a track with preparation moisture. East Bank were all out for 218 in 68.2 overs just before the close of play on the first day. Former Guyana U-19 player Ryan Hercules who survived a confident appeal for caught behind when on 18 and was dropped on 32, top scored with 102 which was decorated with eight fours and three sixes.
Andrea Legall (35) was the only other East Bank batsman to pass 20 as Roopnarine Persaud 4 – 11 off 8 overs, Nazeer Mohamed 2 – 36 from 12.2 and Imran Khan 2 – 41 from 19 overs did the damage with the ball for Wakenaam whose openers only had to negotiate 3 balls before they were offered the lights by the umpires and they immediately accepted it.
Wakenaam continued their reply on the 2nd and final day and made 186 all out in 60 overs. Nazeer Mohamed was their leading run getter with 48 while Wazeer Mohamed 27, Roopnarine Persaud 21, Randolph Harry 20 and Oyono Sampson 20 failed to carry on after getting good starts.
Mark Brathwaite was the visitors leading wicket taker with 3 – 52 while Jason Heyliger picked up 2 – 24, Samuel De Camp 2 – 22 and Andrea Legall 2 – 23.
East Bank with a lead of 32 began their 2nd innings disastrously just after tea losing the wickets of Imtiaz Sadick (01), Alim Mohamed (01) and Ryan Hercules (00) to leave them at 1 – 3 off 4 overs.

Goberdan (11.n.o) then negotiated 11 overs taking the score to 22 before the umpires in consultation with the captains decided to call off play at 4:00 pm. East Bank had an overall lead of 54. Wayne Osborne had figures of 2 – 1 from 3 overs for Wakenaam.
The competition continues on Saturday with Wakenaam travelling to Leguan and Bartica hosting East Bank. (Zaheer Mohamed)
