Several persons luckily escaped injury while a shop owner is counting her losses after a Canter truck slammed into her business at the corner of Norton and Haley Streets, Wortmanville, at about 18:50 hours yesterday.
The Canter truck brought down a section of the western wall of the shop and even damaged several items in the mini supermarket.
The truck which was proceeding north along Haley Street had crossed into the path of a pick-up that was heading east on Norton Street.
The collision sent the Canter truck careening into the mini supermarket.
“This truck come out suddenly in front of me and there was nothing I could do but to try to swerve to avoid a head-on impact,” said the driver of the pick-up.
The owner of the shop told Kaieteur News that she was in the upper flat of the building when she felt an impact.
When she came downstairs to investigate, she saw to her horror, part of the truck inside her business and items scattered all over the floor. She could not estimate the damage but indicated that it would be quite significant.
