Region Four Chairman’s attitude leaves much to be desired

The obvious deficiencies by the PNCR are not in isolation of manifestations that identify its characteristics as a party that is completely out of touch. Because of this, its vulnerability level is constantly increasing and the gap between party ideals and that of its supporters are widening.

In this day and age, the PNCR seems comfortable endorsing and condoning dictatorial behaviour by its officials as strong evidence suggests in the case of its Chairman of Region #4, Clement Corlette, whose leadership style daunts the prospects for development in the region.

Corlette is advancing divisive approaches by his attitude which continues to plunge him into serious conflicts with regional officials, councilors, even some on the PNCR side, and residents of the region.

My tracking of regional issues suggests he is preoccupied with his own ambition, failing to utilise opportunities for cooperation, support and accommodation of those who share a different view.

It is more about his interests in suppressing the views of others. Naturally this speaks volumes when one views the tactics and behaviour exhibited by him to maintain his dictatorial and totalitarian leadership style as demonstrated at the last statutory RDC meeting where he imposed a restriction on councilors’ contribution.

This latest position brings it home clearly that he is not up to tolerate criticism, opposing position on any issue and dissents are up to be hounded into silence, prosecuted under oppressive rules stifling freedom of speech and expression at council. It is perhaps the worse blunder in the choice for Regional Chairmen.

The council should enjoy liberty and unity which are not magical elements of leadership ability but rather comes out of real leadership.

I urge councilors to remain firm against the dictatorial behaviour of Corlette by devoting themselves to the challenge of speaking out against this type of behaviour.

Councilors are all elected officials placed there to represent the interests of people, and they should resist any attempts to deny them that right to discuss issues of national interest and deny them the tradition of questioning the dubious.
