Tomorrow evening softball cricket fans will witness for the first time the Guyana Floodlight Association launching its female team when they take on a female squad representing the Guyana Karate College at the Malteenoes Cricket Ground.
The game will be 15 overs per innings and the “war of the roses” will start at 5:30 pm. All the female players are asked to assemble at the ground at 5:00 pm.
After the ladies engagement the men from the Guyana Floodlights team, who will be captained by Ray Seebaran, will play a squad representing the Guyana Karate College who will be captained by their president Reaz Hussain.
This contest after the female game is the second trial match for players vying for selection to represent the Guyana Floodlight team on the February 6, 7 and 8, 2009 at the brand new Cricket Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This tournament is know as the “Florida Cup” and is played yearly.
Tomorrow’s two matches are being held as a fundraiser for the Guyana Karate College who is building a college at Turkeyen, ECD. There will be duck curry, Bar-b-Que and other delicacies on sale with accompanying beverages. Admission is free.
All trophies are being sponsored by Gavin Jeffery, managing Director of Automotive Art of 164 Charlotte Street, Bourda, Georgetown.
The teams will come from: Floodlight female squad – Tzaddi Franklin (captain), Gaitrie Jagdeo, Susan De Barros, Dipika Ramotar, Alana Maharaj, Marise Jordan, Rebecca Muire, Christina Jaari, Donnet Ritchie, Rochelle Mathias, Sharmine Gildharry, Parbitti Singh and Anjanie Persaud.
Guyana Karate College female squad: Shonella Klass (captain), Alydia Ramsarran, Jazelle Rutherford, Marissa Jordan, Alysa Xavier, Robyn Thomas, Dinesa Muir, Devika Gobin, Serojne Ramgobin, Cashanna Samuels, Kizia Bess, Jeda and Ocelisa Marks.
The Male teams – Floodlight squad: Ray Seebaran (Captain), Mike Singh, Rahaman Khan, Ariel Persaud, Petamber Maharaj, Derick Ramoutar, Jailall Deodass, Rohan Boojraj, Surendra Nauth, Sheik Mohammed, Ricky Deonarain, Bedi Ramjewan, Jaipaul Bharat, Ray Seebaran and Fidel Singh.
Guyana Karate College squad: Reaz Hussain (captain), Farook Abbass, Pradeep Abdul, Steve Narine, Ramjit Singh, Vicky Ramsaywack, Vicky Sooknanan, Ramesh Ramsaroop, Ramesh Sunich, Vinod Sawh, Sham Nokta, Navin Prashad, Raj Boodhoo, Reeza Joaquin and Dwayne Yan.
