Home boy Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams destroyed the opposition in fine style on Sunday last, pedaling to victory in the two senior races of the annual Troy Humphrey Memorial Cycle Meet organized by Roraima Bikers Club and held at Amelia’s Ward in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden.
Williams, who competes in Trinidad and Tobago, won the category one to four (15 lap) race ahead of John Charles, Robin Persaud, Tyrone Hamilton, C. Richardson of Anguilla and Tony Simon in that order. Williams also carted off four of the 7 prime prizes, Persaud taking the others.
The former Caribbean champion blew away the field in the feature 20 lap race with Hamilton taking the runner sport. Junior Niles had to settle for third, Persaud, Charles and Warren Mc Kay closing out he top six. ‘Fishy’ took three primes with one each to Charles, Hamilton, Persaud and Albert Philander.
Chris Persaud was the top junior/juvenile with victory in the 15-lap contest over Mike Nelson and Al Green. The winner pocketed 5 prime prizes with Jason Pollydore capturing the other two.
Naiomi Singh was the leading female rider with victory in both open races over two laps, ahead of Assinna Barrett and Abigail Humphrey in that order.
The top over-35 veteran was Ian Jackson who won the five lap battle over Virgil Jones and Kennard Lovell, while storming to victory in the over-45 division was Aubrey Springer followed by Walter Isaacs and Aubrey Gravesande.
Taking the top spot among the upright riders in their 3 lap duel was Cliff Thomas with Abdel Moses and Shawn Frank second and third, respectively.
In the BMX races, Ozia McCually crossed the line first in the open event followed by Kunta McKenzie and Olandio King.
The top 12-14 was Jamal Cromwell ahead of R. Humphrey and A. Williams. King returned to win the 9-12 race, 2nd and 3rd going to T. Joseph and Akeem Lincoln.
And Raymond Perez continues to rule the roost among his 7 – 9 age colleagues winning the one lap contest ahead of C. Blackman.
Roraima Bikers Club Executive, members and the Humphrey’s Family, sponsor of the event are all expressing gratitude to all the participants and officials who worked collectively in making the race meet the success it was.
