With unyielding calls for road users to be more vigilant, accidents are still plaguing the society. The latest road accident happened yesterday afternoon at Montrose, and involved a motorcyclist and a pedestrian.
The injured were identified as 24-year-old Raul Hardy of 152 Campbell Avenue and 26-year-old Abraham John of Shell Beach, Waini.
According to eyewitnesses, John was attempting to cross the road to enter a waiting minibus when he came into the path of the motorcycle ridden by Hardy. The two were both rushed to the hospital with multiple fractures.
The eyewitnesses said that the pedestrian, John, was knocked unconscious, but later regained consciousness when he came to the hospital.
The pedestrian’s brother, Charles John, said that Abraham had just left his home in Montrose and he had followed his brother to get a bus. The man said that he turned away when his brother was crossing the road, and then he heard a smashing sound. He said that he immediately turned back around and saw his brother on the ground along with another man.
He further told this newspaper that the two injured men were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The older brother admitted that he and Abraham were having a few drinks prior to the accident and that his brother was a little intoxicated.
According to the motorcyclist’s family, they were informed via a phone call from the man’s younger brothers. He said that man is presently employed at Qualfon on the East Coast and is the father of one.
Police are continuing investigations into yesterday’s accident.
