Albion Captain Sewnarine Chattergoon collects the Tenelec trophy from GCB Vice president Malcolm Peters who represented the sponsor.

Less than a week before he departs with the West Indies team for a three-match one-day series against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi which starts on November 12, Skipper Sewnarine Chattergoon produced a Man-of-the-Match performance to lead Albion to a nine-wicket win against Young Warriors on Sunday in the 2007 Tenelec Inc Berbice 50-overs first division cricket final in Guyana.
The 27-year-old left-handed opener took 3-32 opening the bowling with his right-arm leg-spin as Young Warriors were dismissed for 177 in 49.2 overs and then returned to hit an unbeaten 70 in a 141-run opening partnership with Doodnauth Lallbeharry (74) to see Albion to 178-1 in 28.4 overs on a good track and fast Albion outfield.
Asked to bat in sultry conditions, a fair size crowd saw Chattergoon remove former West Indies opener Richard Ramdeen (4) and Wahied Edwards (19) as the Young Warriors slipped to 29-2.
Pacer Lallbeharry then got rid of Paul Wintz and Farouk Hussain for ducks in the ninth over to leave the score on 32-4 and when first-class leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo had Randolph Baker (3), Young Warriors were precariously placed on 41-5 in 16 overs.
National under-19 batsman Seon Hetmyer, who stroked three fours in an elegant 55 and Ishwar Singh (30) revived the position with an 81-run sixth wicket stand in 18 overs before Singh was caught off Test player Narsingh Deonarine at 121-6.
Hetmyer, one of the most talented teenage batsmen in Guyana, was then stumped off West Indies under-19 left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul at 128-7.
The lower order in pacer Kwesi Maltay (16), Muniram Shivdyal (14) and former Guyana first-class player Hubern Evans (11) rallied their team to what eventually proved an inadequate total as Chattergoon (3-32), Lallbeharry (2-21) and Deonarine (2-40) did the damage.
Chattergoon, who played two Tests, 11 ODIs and has four tons in 52 first class matches, batted fluently and reached the boundary nine times in his 86-ball unfinished half-century while Lallbeharry was much more brutal in his approach, clobbered nine fours and a six in his 66-ball innings before he was caught and bowled by Hussain.
Deonarine and Chattergoon, the only players from Albion to play Test cricket since Sew Shivnarine made his debut against Australia in 1978, then carried their team to an emphatic victory with Deonarine finishing on 19 not out.
Albion collected the $100,000 (US$500) winner’s prize while Young Warriors, who on Friday night won the national Neal & Massy 40-overs first division title at the Stadium under lights, had to settle for the $50,000 (US$250) Runner-up prize. Chattergoon collected $5,000 (US$25) for being adjudged the Man-of-the-Match.
