Defending champions Notredame of Barbados proved that they are still the best of the lot when they successfully defended their Masters Championship trophy defeating Guyana’s GT All Stars 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the GFC ground.
Their win brought the curtains down on three days of intense battles among eight masters’ teams with games played at the Carifesta Sports Complex ground and GFC.
Best Striker and Most Valuable Player of the tournament Hansley Cumberbatch of Barbados, a stoutly built and speedy forward, banged in the lone goal late in the second half to seal the championship for his country in a closely fought battle.
The Bajans, who played unbeaten throughout, pocketed the top prize of $450,000 and a beautiful trophy, compliments of Banks DIH Limited. For their efforts, GT All Stars received a trophy and $225,000.
Pele won the third prize of $125,000 following their triumph over GFC. Rastafari Patriarchs won the Plate Competition and received a trophy for their efforts.
Pele’s Dwayne Rogers was declared the best defender of the tournament, while Terrence ‘Old Head’ Lewis took the best midfielder award.

Banks DIH Manager Mortimer Stewart, also a member of the GT All Stars in brief remarks before handing over the champions trophy, complimented the organisers while calling on the players to be disciplined in whatever they do, since this is a good hallmark in life.
