The age of criminals appears to be getting lower and lower, to the extent that some residents of the Charlestown area are alarmed that some of them are as young as 11 years old.
It is not that they are shocked that children so young are becoming engaged in criminal activities, but the amount seems to be growing at an alarming rate.
Residents have reported that a gang of youths no older than 15 years has been terrorising persons in the Charlestown area.
Within recent weeks, several persons have reported that they were victims of these baby criminals, who are reportedly preying on young persons, fearing that they might not do well against adults.
One teenager was recently held up by the gang that hides out on Sussex Street near Saffon Street in the nights.
The teenager was relieved of a gold chain while he was making his way home.
One another day, one young man was held up by one of the gang members and threatened with his life, while he was on his way to buy bread at a nearby bakery.
When the young man’s father confronted the teen gang member, the latter ran away.
It is believed that the gang comprises the same youths who would roam the streets, beating vagrants as they lie sleeping on the various pavements in the night.
It would appear that they have graduated to holding up unsuspecting persons and relieving them of their valuables. It is not clear if the youth gang is armed with guns, but residents shudder to think if they are.
The police have been informed, and they have assured that they will increase their patrols in the area.
