Cullen, Die Hard register victories

Cullen, Die Hard register victoriesCullen and Die Hard registered convincing victories as the Essequibo Leg of the Memorex 15 overs Guyana Softball League cricket competition continued on the Essequibo coast last Sunday.

At Reliance, Cullen defeated Young Warriors by 33, runs. Cullen took first strike and made 121 – 7 off their allotted 15 overs.

David Narine made 31 and Dhanpat Singh 27 as Haseeb Mohamed took 3 – 9 and Sudesh Persaud 2 – 24 for Young Warriors, who in reply were bowled out for 88 in 14.5 overs.

Khalid Baksh top scored with 40 while Keron Samdat contributed 18. David Narine with 3 – 19 and Jainanand Lall 2 – 17 bowled well for Cullen.

At Perseverance, Die Hard defeated Electronics by 38 runs. Die Hard batted first and piled up 165 – 6 in their 15 overs, with Richie Lakeram getting 58 and Imtiaz Emrit 36, while Azam Haniff bagged 3 – 27 and Kulraj Persaud 2 – 19.

In reply Electronics could only mustered 127 – 7 off 15 overs. Haniff returned with the bat to top score with 37 while Latchman Rohit contributed 36 as Devindra Narine claimed 4 – 28 and Emrit 2 – 14 for the winners.
In the other fixture Reliance got a walk over from Young Guns.

The competition continues tomorrow with the final round of matches. The two top teams will qualify for the national quarter-finals.

The fixtures read: Reliance vs United Brothers at Reliance and Die Hard vs Cullen at Reliance. The first game will start at 9:30 am, while the second will commence at 12:30 pm. (Zaheer Mohamed)
