Silver Sharks Aquatic Club emerged as the number one club when the Dorado Speed Swim Club, under the auspices of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) hosted an Inter-Club Relay Swimming competition on Sunday last at the Colgrain Swimming Pool, Camp Street.
Silver Sharks totaled 240 points to win comfortably ahead of host club Dorado on 224 and Dolphin Speed Swim Club bring up the rear with 206. The winners were presented with a trophy, compliments of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport.
The day’s activity saw competitors having lots of fun and excitement as the future aquatic stars swam their hearts out to gain points for their clubs.
The main objectives of Inter-Club meets according to GASA are to stimulate the sport of swimming in Guyana and to foster keen competition among the older swimmers, while developing the talents of the younger athletes.
The events competed were Freestyle and Medley Relays in the various distances: 4x200yards; 4x100yards; 4x50yards and 4×25 yards.
The age groups consisted of 8 years & under, 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; 15-17 years and an open category.
Points were awarded to all age groups except the open (18 years & over) category.
Meanwhile, swimmers will be intensifying preparations ahead of GASA’s National Swimming Championships which is set for Thursday November 6 to Sunday 9 at the Castellani Pool, Homestretch Avenue.
