The Police, Eve Leary Sports Club Ground will be the venue for the Guyana Anglican Youth Council (GAYC) Annual Athletic Championships and Day of Sports starting at 10:00hrs this morning.
The defending champions hail from the West Coast Berbice and they will attempt to retain this accolade when they oppose teams from the Essequibo Coast, West Demerara, East Bank Essequibo, Linden, East Bank Demerara, Georgetown, East Coast Demerara, West Coast Berbice and Kamarang.
The meet commences with the assembly of athletes, followed by the arrival of Bishop Randolph George. Shortly afterwards there will be the march past of athletes and officials.
An official of the GAYC will then deliver a short address which sets the stage for the feature address to be delivered by Bishop George.
Participants will contest several races including Girls and Boys U-15, 100m, 400m and 1500m, Women and Men 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m and long jump. There will also be the Open Male and Female 4X100m and the 4X400m relays.
Patrons will also be treated to several novelty events including the 60m race for Priests and Lay Ministers, the lime and spoon race, sack and wheelbarrow race, buns eating competition, late for Church and tug-o-war competitions. The event will be held under the distinguished patronage of the Bishop of Georgetown, Randolph George.
