Autopsy shows victim was beaten

– boyfriend still in custody

An autopsy has revealed that 29-year-old Anjanie Mahdoo, called ‘Pinky,’ was struck on the right side of the head and suffered compression injuries to the neck, police said yesterday.
A release stated that Government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death as asphyxiation caused by the injuries to the neck and compounded by those to the head.
Meanwhile, detectives were yesterday still questioning Mahdoo’s boyfriend, although police officials say that they had nothing as yet to implicate him in her murder.
The man, who lives at Success, was detained hours after the woman’s body was discovered.
Police are trying to establish how Madhoo, who resided at Alexander Village, ended up on the East Coast of Demerara.
They believe that she had visited her boyfriend on Monday, the day she was last seen alive by her parents.
Madhoo’s body was fished out of a trench near the LBI Pay Office, at around 07:00 hours on Wednesday.
Police have ruled out robbery as a motive, since Anjanie Madhoo was still wearing her jewellery when her body was discovered.
She was also barefooted.
Madhoo, who was employed at a Regent Street store, reportedly went to work on Monday and left at the stipulated time.
Detectives believe that the woman may have travelled to East Coast Demerara on Monday night to observe the Diwali celebrations at the LBI Community Centre Ground.
