Europe and Guyana based players join counterparts in T&T
Guyana’s ‘Golden Jaguars’ have intensified preparations ahead of the final second-phase group of the 2008 Digicel Caribbean Championships with the Europe and Guyana based players joining their counterparts in the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, hosts of the group.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport last evening after touching down in Trinidad, Manager Rawle Adams said the Europe based players, Shawn Beveney, Chris Nurse, John Rodrigues and the Newton brothers, Jake and Howard arrived in the Twin Island on Wednesday while training commenced yesterday morning under the direction of Technical Director Jamaal Shabazz, head coach Wayne Dover and assistant, Kavin Pearce.
The local based players Devon Millington, Dwayne Jacobs, Dwight Peters, Shawn Bishop, Anthony Abrams along with the T&T based Pros, Captain Charles Pollard, Howard Lowe, Walter Moore, Carey Harris, Collie Hercules, Kayode McKinnon, Randolph Jerome, Gregory Richardson, Konata Manning, Kester Jacobs, Andrew Durant and Richard Reynolds will all be aiming to ensure Guyana’s qualification for the finals in Jamaica, December.
Only two teams from this group, which also includes St. Kitts & Nevis and Antigua & Barbuda, will advance.
Guyana will face St. Kitts in their first game next Wednesday evening at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
Noticeably absent from the Guyanese squad is 2006/7 DCC highest goal scorer Nigel Codrington.
When Kaieteur Sport sought a reason for Codrington’s non inclusion, Manager Rawle Adams informed that he was unavailable.
